Description
The 5 Cs of media use is a mnemonic tool for pediatricians and other professionals to help them talk to parents or patients about how they can engage with social media in a safe, healthy, and age-appropriate way. The 5 Cs of media use are Child, Content, Calm, Crowding Out, and Communication.
This handout was created for pediatricians and parents by the American Academy of Pediatrics in partnership with the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, and contains helpful tips and guidance on how children and teenagers ages 10-14 can stay safe online.
The 5 C’s were inspired by the work of journalist & author Lisa Guernsey.
