Description
Wellness is crucial to recovery from behavioral health conditions. To spread this message, SAMHSA (Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration) has developed a guide for communities to encourage wellness and provide recommendations to build paths to wellness that fit each community’s needs. This is a good resource for anyone working with collaborative groups or coalitions.
Communities can create socially inclusive environments that recognize each member’s strengths and provide opportunities for those in recovery to contribute as community members. SAMHSA encourages communities to participate in their National Wellness Week during the third week of September to spread awareness about wellness.
The guide also shares other ways communities can raise awareness about wellness throughout the year. SAMHSA suggests community organizations collaborate and create strong partnerships to promote local wellness activities. Communities can also contact local media organizations and work closely with public opinion leaders to spread the message and further the impact of wellness events.
