Description
The National Child Traumatic Stress Network (NCTSN) published information regarding childhood trauma. The NCTSN defines trauma as an event a child is involved in or witnesses and is intensively threatened by it. One type of trauma the NCTSN recognizes is Intimate Partner Violence (IPV), and this occurs when an individual purposely causes harm or threatens the risk of harm to any past or current partner or spouse. The website includes children’s immediate reactions and long-term effects of domestic violence. Children aged 0-5 may experience sleep or eating disruptions, lack of responsiveness, separation anxiety, and inconsolable crying. Children aged 6-11 may experience nightmares, aggression, difficulty concentrating, and school avoidance. Adolescents aged 12-18 may experience antisocial behaviors, depression, anxiety, impulsive behaviors, and withdrawal. In addition to the effects, the NCTSN provides various IPV interventions and resources.
