Description
The National Child Traumatic Stress Network (NCTSN) published information regarding childhood trauma. The NCTSN defines trauma as an event a child is involved in or witnesses and is intensively threatened by it. One type of trauma the NCTSN recognizes is experiencing natural disasters. Natural disasters include hurricanes, earthquakes, tornadoes, wildfires, tsunamis, floods, and other extreme weather events like blizzards, droughts, extreme heat, and wind storms. Natural disasters result in many adversities for children, such as displacement, loss of home and personal property, economic hardship, and the injury or death of loved ones. The NCTSN website provides various resources concerning preparing and protecting families in the wake of extreme weather events.
