Description
The National Child Traumatic Stress Network (NCTSN) published information regarding childhood trauma. The NCTSN defines trauma as an event a child is involved in or witnesses and is intensively threatened by it. One type of trauma the NCTSN recognizes is terrorism and violence. Violent events such as shootings, bombings, or other types of attacks can have profound effects on children and their families. Those involved in these events may be physically injured and need medical treatment and long-term rehabilitation as a result. Youth may react differently to violent events and recovery time depends on what happened to each individual and family. It is crucial to be supportive and understanding of the reactions youth experience. The NCTSN website provides school shooting and mass violence resources for those impacted by acts of violence.
