Description
Trauma can have a major impact on the lives and well-being of children. Experiencing trauma can harm mental health, cause behavioral issues, negatively impact physical health, and increase the risk of substance abuse later in life. Trauma can stem from a variety of situations and circumstances. The National Child Traumatic Stress Network outlines 14 types of Childhood Trauma; bullying, physical abuse, traumatic grief, disasters, sexual abuse, medical trauma, complex trauma, community violence, intimate partner violence, refugee trauma, sex trafficking, terrorism and violence, early childhood trauma, and race-based trauma.
This resource provides information on each of the 12 types of childhood trauma along with a link to more information on the types from The National Child Traumatic Stress Network.
