Facts for Families: Suicidal Feelings, Thoughts, and behaviors to help you to identify the signs and symptoms and know what you can do to help. If you identify someone struggling with suicidal feelings, thoughts and behaviors, some things that you can do to help include:
- If there is an attempt, seek professional help right away, call the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, and/or go to nearest ER
- Never leave someone who is suicidal alone
- Ensure that there is no access to harmful objects
- Promote positive emotional well-being
- Offer opportunities to make positive connections with others
- Pay attention to artwork and writings that show warning signs, then talk about it
- Always talk privately about your concerns for their safety
- No matter how minor, always take suicidal feelings, thoughts, and behaviors seriously
